How can I avoid a DUI?

Whether you have a prior drunk driving charge or you have not been arrested for drunk driving, if you go out for drinks with friends, the possibility of a DUI may be in the back of your mind. Of course, the easiest way to avoid being in a drunk driving accident or getting arrested is to take the steps to prevent getting behind the wheel after having too much to drink. It is important for you and other Missouri residents to know how to achieve this.

You may start out the night with the best intentions, but as you know, your inhibitions and decision-making abilities can be compromised after having a few drinks. A decision to never get behind the wheel after drinking could change to “just this once” or “I am only buzzed, not drunk” after you get some alcohol in your system. State Farm has provided the following tips on avoiding drunk driving:

  • Designate someone to stay sober during your night out, not only to drive everyone home, but to ensure that nobody drinks too much or behaves in an unsafe manner.
  • Decide on your drinking limit ahead of time.
  • Consider hosting a get-together in your home instead of going out to drink. Either ensure everyone has a sober ride home or take everyone’s keys and plan on your guests staying the night.
  • If you do not have a sober driver, call a taxi or an Uber to take you and your friends home.

There are many ways to have a good time without spoiling the fun with a DUI. The information in this blog is for informational purposes and should not replace the advice of a lawyer.
